“Rīgas satiksme” receives schoolchildren on Shadow day

During this year’s Shadow day schoolchildren showed strong interest in public transport –“Rīgas satiksme” received 14 shadows. Four pupils were shadows of “Rīgas satiksme” bus drivers, four of trolleybus drivers, three of tram drivers, and three were shadows of ticket controllers.

This opportunity is particularly useful for those pupils who take interest in public transport and would like to work professionally in this field in the future. The Shadow day at “Rīgas satiksme” started in the administration building with the presentation telling about the company – its history, goals and the wide operation filed. Then, as usually, shadows followed the representatives of the professions they had chosen.

Two pupils, Mariss (11) from Krimulda and Aleksejs (17) from Riga, participated in the Shadow day for a second time. Last year Mariss was the shadow of a tram driver, but this year he wrote in his application that he wants to become familiar with the profession of trolleybus driver, and, perhaps, some day become an employee of “Rīgas satiksme”. As for Aleksejs, he wanted once again to be the shadow of a ticket controller, hoping that this time he will be allowed to use the controller’s manual terminal.

Kate (12) from Riga applied for Shadow day at “Rīgas satiksmē” as she wanted to know more about trams and duties of tram drivers. She wrote in her application: “I like trams which is my favourable transport.” Dāvis (13) is interested in trams because he wants to become a tram driver in the future.

“Rīgas satiksme” receives shadows for a fifth year in a row, giving schoolchildren the opportunity of getting familiar with the company. This year “Rīgas satiksme” offered them to be shadows of six professions – a PR specialist, transport dispatcher, bus, trolleybus and tram driver, as well as ticket controllers.
